The 2025-2032 Port and Port Facility Plan of Cantabria, and its strategic environmental assessment, will involve an investment of more than 30 million euros in order to improve the operability and integration of the regional ports and to respond to the demands raised by the Fishermen’s Guilds.

The ports concerned by this plan are Castro Urdiales, with 3 actions; Laredo, with 7 projects; Colindres, with 2 actions; Santoña, with 5 actions; Suances, with 4 projects; Comillas, with two, and San Vicente de la Barquera, with another 5 specific actions.

The Plan contains a series of specific, large-scale actions aimed at “improving, expanding, or considerably transforming the facilities and services” of a port, and also maintenance, modernization, and enhancement actions, aimed at the maintenance, improvement, and modernization of port infrastructure and equipment, the implementation of advanced technologies for management and safety, dredging, environmentally sustainable practices, and the development of additional services.

The preliminary draft of the Plan, which will channel the port policy of the Cantabrian Government, has published its preliminary draft, the step prior to the final drafting and provisional approval of the project, which will subsequently undergo environmental assessment and public consultation, technical analysis, and an environmental statement. It contains the forecasts, objectives, and action priorities for the coming years, as well as the environmental criteria and the organization of port facilities.

The documentation may be consulted until next November 15 to proceed with receiving claims and observations, in addition to those that may be received from sending the report to a total of 60 entities and bodies listed in the scope document issued by the General Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.
