On November 21, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering respectively announced the list of newly elected academicians for the 2025 election, selecting a total of 73 CAS academicians and 71 CAE academicians. Among the newly elected academicians of the two academies, 13 are female scientists.
Furthermore, in 2025, 27 new foreign academicians were elected to the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 24 new foreign academicians were elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering. After this election, the total number of CAS academicians is 908, and the total number of foreign academicians is 173; the total number of CAE academicians is 1002, and the total number of foreign academicians is 148.
According to the list of academicians elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2025, two CAE academicians are from China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC): Zhang Jinlan, a researcher at the 719th Research Institute of CSSC, was elected as an academician of the CAE’s Department of Mechanical and Vehicular Engineering; Lin Feng, Director of the 703rd Research Institute of CSSC, was elected as an academician of the CAE’s Department of Energy and Mining Engineering.
According to publicly available information, Zhang Jinlan, male, Han ethnicity, born in December 1963 in Wuchang, Hubei, is a member of the Communist Party of China and a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress. He is a member of the Party Committee and Chief Technical Expert at the 719th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, and a researcher.
Lin Feng, male, Manchu ethnicity, born in March 1966, is a deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress. He currently serves as the Director and Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the 703rd Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited.

Prior to the announcement of the newly elected academicians list, data from the CSSC official website showed that the group currently has 13 CAE academicians, 269 senior experts, 13 recipients of the China Skill Award, and 147 National Technical Experts.
However, just a few days before the announcement of the newly elected academicians list (November 17), Comrade Shen Wensun, a CAE academician and expert in the field of ship design and construction in China, and former Chief Designer of Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd., passed away due to illness. Academician Shen Wensun was elected as a CAE academician in 1997 and was a leader in China’s ship design and construction field.
