Recently, the “Xinfu 137,” the first 100,000 cubic meter very large ethane carrier (VLEC) built by a private Chinese enterprise, constructed by Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., safely departed from Jiangsu Taizhou for sea trials under the full escort of the Taizhou maritime authorities. This marks a new peak reached by China’s private shipbuilding industry in the track of high-end specialized vessel construction.
It is understood that the “Xinfu 137” has a length of 229.9 meters, a beam of 36.5 meters, and a cargo capacity of 100,000 cubic meters, placing it among the world’s largest ethane carriers. The vessel’s technical indicators, safety standards, and green performance have all reached internationally leading levels.
This vessel is the first of five sister ships built by Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding for Xinpu Chemical (Taixing) Co., Ltd., with a total project investment of 800 million US dollars (approximately 5.7 billion RMB).
To ensure the safety of this ultra-large vessel’s departure for sea trials, the Jiangsu maritime authorities coordinated various command centers along the river, conducting dynamic tracking and real-time monitoring of the vessel’s entire voyage, and promptly issuing navigation warnings and safety alert information.
At the same time, 11 maritime patrol boats were dispatched to perform full escort and on-site traffic organization tasks in critical sections of the waterway, constructing a safe and unobstructed “green water channel” for the vessel’s sea trials.
In the first quarter of this year, the Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration has ensured the departure for sea trials of 33 newly built vessels. Among them, there were 12 large vessels over 205 meters in length, a year-on-year increase of 10%; and 7 ultra-large vessels over 270 meters in length, a significant year-on-year increase of 133.3%. The shipbuilding industry in the jurisdiction continues to accelerate towards high-quality development.
