China’s Ship Repair Industry Reports Strong Performance in First Three Quarters

On October 10, the 94th meeting of China’s ship repair enterprise “SPCC” was held in Shanghai. The meeting was co-chaired by SPCC Executive Chairman Li Zhengjian and Li Gang, the rotating chairman of the 94th SPCC meeting and Deputy General Manager of Shanghai CR Power Dahua Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. Leaders and representatives from 20 member units, as well as from CSSC, COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, China Merchants Industry Group, and the Ship Repair Technical Committee of the Chinese Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers attended the meeting.

Li Gang delivered a thematic report titled “Transformation, Development, Green Ship Repair – CR Power Dahua’s 30-Year Journey of Striving in Ship Repair,” which reviewed the development journey of Shanghai CR Power Dahua from its inception to becoming a renowned enterprise in the domestic and international ship repair industry, along with numerous engineering achievements that were firsts in China and even globally. Focusing on the future of the industry, the report elaborated on the practical pathways for transformation, development, and green ship repair. He proposed that the ship repair industry can, through continuous innovation, deeply align with the national environmental protection strategy and forge a unique path of green development.

SPCC member units exchanged and analyzed the operational situation of the ship repair industry in the first three quarters. The performance of China’s major ship repair enterprises in the first three quarters was remarkable: the ship repair output value reached 33.953 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 13.14%; 4,841 ships were completed and delivered from the yards, a year-on-year increase of 2.85%. Among them, the total ship repair volume of Pacific, DSC, Huafeng, and XinHong all increased by over 30% year-on-year, while the number of ships completed by Dahua, Wanbang, and Huangpu increased by over 15% year-on-year. It is estimated that for the full year, the number of single shipyards with a ship repair output value exceeding 1 billion yuan will reach 20, with 8 of them expected to surpass 2 billion yuan.

SPCC Executive Chairman Li Zhengjian delivered an EO report. On behalf of the meeting, he expressed gratitude to CR Power Dahua for its meticulous preparation and thoughtful arrangements. Li Zhengjian pointed out that against the complex backdrop of unprecedented changes, SPCC member units have overcome difficulties and forged ahead from January to September 2025, laying a solid foundation for the industry’s high-quality development throughout the year.

The meeting reported on the summary of “Green Ship Repair Equipment” by the Ship Repair Technical Committee. Notably, based on statistics from 19 major shipyards as a sample, as of September 30, 2025, the inventory of various types of green equipment showed significant quarter-on-quarter growth: 1,664 waterjet units, a 16.5% increase; 464 wall-climbing robots, a 10.2% increase; 102 long-reach vehicles, a 34.2% increase; 224 dock floor vehicles, a 15.5% increase. Of the 56.9 million square meters of ship repair coating completed from January to September 2025, waterjetting accounted for 59.9%, indicating that waterjetting has replaced nearly 60% of blasting work.
