On July 23, the naming and delivery ceremony for the chemical tanker “Jin Hai Cheng,” built by Chuandong Shipbuilding, a subsidiary of China Shipbuilding Chongqing Equipment, for Shanghai COSCO SHIPPING Energy Chemical (a wholly-owned subsidiary of COSCO SHIPPING Energy), was held in Taizhou, Jiangsu.
Representatives from China State Shipbuilding Corporation, COSCO SHIPPING Energy, China Shipowners’ Association, Chongqing Chuandong Shipbuilding Heavy Industry, China Classification Society Chongqing Branch, and the 708th Research Institute of CSSC attended the naming ceremony.
The “Jin Hai Cheng” has an overall length of 119.9 meters, a beam of 20.8 meters, a depth of 11.8 meters, and a structural draft of 8.4 meters, with a deadweight tonnage of 11,500 tons and a service speed of 12.8 knots. It is classed by the China Classification Society and flies the Chinese flag. The vessel is propelled by a single engine and single propeller with a medium-speed diesel engine, equipped with DC power distribution and a containerized energy storage shore power system, and is pre-installed for a methanol fuel power system. Its main engine and generator emissions meet Tier III requirements, and it features PTO and PTH functions, earning the i-ship(E) class notation. It has a continuous upper deck with a forecastle, stern castle, vertical invisible bulbous bow, transom stern, semi-balanced rudder, and vortex fin. As an internationally navigable Type II chemical tanker, it can carry IMO Category 2 chemicals. The cargo hold’s internal structure is constructed with duplex stainless steel (2205), and internal structural components are made of 316L stainless steel. Each cargo tank and slop tank has a dedicated pump, allowing simultaneous loading and unloading of eight different types of chemicals.
The newly delivered “Jin Hai Cheng,” designed by the 708th Research Institute of CSSC and built by Chuandong Shipbuilding in collaboration with China Shipbuilding Trading Co., integrates green and intelligent features, setting a benchmark for the new generation of chemical tankers. The vessel’s commissioning not only reflects COSCO SHIPPING Energy’s implementation of President Xi Jinping’s important directive to “adapt to the new trends of green, low-carbon, and smart shipping development” and the “Maritime Power and Shipping Power” strategy but also demonstrates the proactive social responsibility of central enterprises.
