To guarantee safe navigation and maintain continuity of service to and from the Port of Manaus, CMA CGM will implement a Low Water Surcharge (LWS) of USD 753 per TEU, effective September 6, 2026 from all long-haul voyages of Origins to Manaus, and October 5 from Manaus to all long-haul destinations. The charge applies to all types of equipment.
CMA CGM announced that as part of its ongoing operational assessment of the Amazon River system, it is closely monitoring the decline in water levels during the second half of the year and its impact on navigation to and from Manaus.
According to the latest forecast from the Port of Manaus Captaincy (Capitania Fluvial da Amazônia Ocidental), navigability restrictions will begin in week 40 and are expected to last at least until week 52.
Current technical assessments indicate a relevant reduction in navigable draft conditions during the critical period, which will result in a significant decrease in overall transport capacity and vessel utilization.
These limitations generate additional operational costs related to cargo handling, vessel capacity, vessel allocation, route adjustments, additional pilotage fees, a possible floating pier, administrative costs, and other measures necessary to maintain service continuity.
If river conditions require the use of a floating pier to facilitate berthing, cargo handling, or the safe transfer of containers during periods of reduced draft, the related operational arrangements, equipment mobilization, handling structure, and associated third-party costs, the applicable surcharge will be reviewed.
