China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) has taken delivery of the 174,000-cubic-meter LNG carrier Greenergy Star from CSSC’s Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, with the handover signed on October 13 in Shanghai.

The delivery brings CNOOC’s “Greenergy” fleet within the current program to three vessels, following the Greenergy Ying (delivered in May 2024) and the Greenergy Pearl (delivered in December 2024), both already in service.

Greenergy Star is part of Hudong-Zhonghua’s fifth-generation “Changheng-series” of 174,000-CBM LNG carriers developed for CNOOC’s mid-to-long-term FOB LNG transport project.

The class features GTT’s NO96 Super+ cargo containment system and a WinGD 5X72DF2.1 dual-fuel main engine with iCER, with a stated design focus on lower boil-off and improved fuel efficiency.

The 12-ship program is intended to enhance China’s LNG import flexibility under FOB contracts while supporting national energy security goals.

China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) is a China’s largest offshore oil and gas producer and a major LNG importer through its Gas & Power unit.

Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding is a part of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and characterized as China’s leading builder of large LNG carriers; it has targeted deliveries of more than ten large LNG vessels in 2025 as it scales output of fifth-generation designs.
