The Empresa Portuaria San Antonio (EPSA) became the first organization in the Valparaíso Region to obtain the Intermediate Certification awarded by the Asociación Chilena de Seguridad (ACHS) to its Joint Committee on Hygiene and Safety (CPHS), in recognition of the institutional commitment to accident prevention and occupational safety.

The accreditation considers compliance with more demanding standards, greater robustness in the evidence of preventive management, the active participation of workers and company representatives, as well as a permanent commitment to continuous improvement and the control of occupational risks.

Along with delivering the corresponding certificate, ACHS highlighted the management, commitment and performance of all members of the Joint Committee on Hygiene and Safety of the state-owned company.

The manager of People Management and Development of the state-owned company, Consuelo Cánaves, highlighted that “the Intermediate Certification gives continuity to a process initiated in 2024 and represents an important advance for our Joint Committee on Hygiene and Safety, as we have consolidated a more structured, systematic and sustainable risk and accident prevention system. This achievement is the result of the commitment shown by the committee members during the certification process, which concluded on March 23 with the completion of the audit that validated compliance with demanding standards in occupational health and safety.”

Fernando Covarrubias, president of the CPHS of EPSA, stated that “we accepted the challenge of seeking the Intermediate Certification, which is quite demanding, and we managed to obtain it. This means that we are complying with what we must do, and we are doing it well. And that is the great support we have had in the work carried out.”

Consuelo Cánaves emphasized that this step taken by the CPHS of the state-owned company can serve as an example to be replicated by other companies in the port system of San Antonio, in order to raise the standards of accident prevention and safety for people working in the logistics chain. “Along with being an efficient port and a leader in cargo transfer, we must work together so that the docks, yards and access to the terminals are safer places for workers and that there is a strong preventive culture at all levels of the operation,” highlighted the executive.

“This recognition that we are delivering is important because within the certification process, up to March we had 26 companies nationwide that were being certified, of which four have obtained the Intermediate Certification and here in the Valparaíso Region the only company that obtained it has been the Empresa Portuaria San Antonio, which is a reason for joy and celebration for the workers,” indicated Pablo Urrutia, head of Commercial Management and Preventive Services of ACHS in the Province of San Antonio.

“It is important because we are talking about safety, and that is a value that must be lived every day regardless of the area in which a worker performs,” stated Urrutia regarding the milestone.
