Recently, the Kure Shipyard of Japan Marine United (JMU) delivered the 3,055 TEU container ship “INTERASIA TACTIC” to INTERASIA LINE.
This marks the sixth and final vessel in the series of 3,055 TEU container ships ordered by INTERASIA LINE from JMU. It is reported that in 2022, INTERASIA LINE placed its first order with JMU for six 3,055 TEU container ships, representing the company’s first self-ordered newbuildings since its establishment. Prior to this, the company had relied solely on chartering and purchasing secondhand vessels to build its fleet.
The series was developed and designed by JMU, with a maximum below-deck capacity of 12 rows x 6 tiers and an on-deck capacity of 14 rows x 7 tiers, totaling 3,055 TEU. With increasing maritime trade volumes within and to/from Asia, these new vessels are expected to be deployed on medium- to long-distance routes. While ensuring high loading capacity, they are also required to deliver superior sailing performance for punctual operations. Compared to conventional designs, the new ships feature significant improvements in environmental and operational performance.
The “INTERASIA TACTIC” has an overall length of 203.50 meters, a beam of 34.80 meters, a depth of 16.60 meters, and a draft of 11.50 meters, with a gross tonnage of 30,676 tons. It is powered by a Hitachi Zosen MAN-B&W 7S70ME-C10.5 diesel engine, accommodates 25 crew members, is classed by DNV, and sails under the Singapore flag.
Using advanced analytical technologies, JMU developed an optimized hull form for low resistance and high efficiency while refining its proprietary energy-saving devices, LV-Fin and ALV-Fin. These enhancements significantly reduce fuel consumption compared to earlier designs. The vessel is equipped with MAN-B&W’s latest Mark 10.5 electronically controlled engine and features inverter-controlled cooling seawater pumps to improve fuel efficiency.
The ship incorporates an Integrated Navigation System (INS) and an all-weather bridge design, enhancing operational convenience and safety during navigation, docking, and undocking. A closed-circuit television (CCTV) system is installed to improve safety through navigational aids and engine room monitoring. Additionally, the vessel complies with various environmental regulations, including a ballast water treatment system and an inventory of hazardous materials.
Established in Tokyo in 1967, INTERASIA LINE has long focused on services between Japan and Singapore/Malaysia. In recent years, the company has expanded its network to cover Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, South Korea, and other regions.
According to Alphaliner data, INTERASIA LINE currently operates a fleet of 25 container ships with a total capacity of 74,650 TEU, including 21 owned vessels and 4 chartered vessels, ranking 27th globally in terms of capacity.
