As anticipated by SHIPPING ITALY in recent weeks, the Grimaldi Group of Naples (represented for almost 30 years by Egekont operating under the aegis of Arkas in Turkey) has strengthened its network of maritime services by adding a fourth vessel on the ro-ro link between Trieste and Gemport (Gemlik).
This was announced by the Greek agent of the Arkas Group, specifying that, “to meet growing customer demand, starting from October 3, the Eurocargo Roma, with a capacity of 250 units, will perform four regular weekly crossings. The new vessel will provide services together with Grimaldi’s Eco Malta, Eco Mediterranea, and Eco Salerno vessels. Each of these ro-ro vessels, with a capacity of over 500 trailers each, reduces CO2 emissions per cargo unit by 50% and achieves zero emissions during port stops, making them part of the most environmentally friendly fleets in the world”.
The link between Turkey and the North Adriatic continues to include a triangular routing with the port of call of Patras in Greece. “With the addition of the call at Patras to the Grimaldi Group’s Trieste-Patras-Ambarli line, a direct logistics bridge between Italy, Greece, and Turkey has been created. Within this line, two regular weekly services are performed between these three ports, in addition to five round trips between Trieste and Venice and Patras,” adds the Turkish agent of the Neapolitan shipping company.
The port of call of Patras is a strategic hub for Grimaldi’s maritime highways in the Mediterranean as it allows for the transshipment and transfer of rolling stock also with the ports of Venice and Bari, connecting the south and north of Italy to Turkey.
