With the participation of workers from the public and private sectors, the nationwide strike against the new labor bill, which provides, among other things, for a 13-hour workday with the same employer, is taking place today.
This is the second nationwide mobilization within two weeks. 38 Workers’ Centers, 18 Federations and hundreds of primary unions from the private sector are participating, as well as from GSEE, recording record participation.
The workers’ demands include the withdrawal of the bill, the implementation of a 7-hour / 5-day / 35-hour work week, the reinstatement of collective labor agreements and the 13th – 14th salary, decent wages and working conditions.

As announced by GSEE, its demands are:
– Withdrawal of the bill for the 13-hour day. Demand for a /35-hour week.
– Reinstatement of the 13th and 14th salary.
– Substantial increases in wages.
– Abolition of the 2% contribution.
– Permanent and stable work for all.
“The strike of October 14 is a milestone in the struggle for dignity, free time and a life with rights,” states GSEE and calls on all workers in the Public Sector to give a massive, decisive “present” at the strike and the rallies across the country.
Furthermore, the Board of Directors of the Athens Labor Center decided to declare a 24-hour strike for Tuesday, October 14, 2025 and a strike rally at Syntagma.
Additionally, the Athens Labor Center demands Collective Agreements with wage increases and a reduction in working hours.
The General Confederation of Workers of Greece (GSEE) calls on every worker to participate in the 24-hour strike mobilization of the Athens Labor Center on Tuesday, October 14, as well as in the rally that will take place at Syntagma.
The Panhellenic Federation of Railway Workers (POS – MST) has announced participation in the 24-hour strike, which means that trains and the suburban railway will remain out of operation.
Workers in the transport sector, through their announcements, express their opposition to the “anti-labor bill of the Ministry of Labor, which institutionalizes the 13-hour workday and demand, among other things, the immediate withdrawal of the anti-labor provisions of the bill, immediate hirings, decent working conditions, and public, safe transport with comfort for passengers – users and all citizens.
Finally, they call all workers to the rally in Syntagma Square.
The Federation of Transport Unions of Greece (OΣME) is participating in the nationwide strike of October 14, 2025.

For the reduction of working hours now, states the announcement of GSEE.
GSEE also states: that the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union refers to the right of every worker to limitation of working hours, to annual leave and to guaranteed periods of rest, for the benefit of his health, safety and dignity (Article 31 “Fair and just working conditions”). Additionally, Directive /EC explicitly mentions the detrimental correlation of long working hours with the health of workers, as well as with the undermining of /social life, the equal participation in the upbringing and care of children and dependent family members who are protected by Directive /EC for the work-life balance.
The Greek legislator formed a framework of regulations, which are equivalent to the minimum levels of protection defined by Directive /EC. In fact, he utilized a wide range of derogations, which hardly allow the further degradation of the existing protection.
