The passenger-vehicle ferry Kissamos ran aground in shallow waters at 2:30 in the morning near the port of Milos after a loss of electrical power (blackout).

The ship was operating the route Piraeus – Milos – Souda carrying 1184 passengers and 103 crew members. No injuries or marine pollution have been reported.

The Kissamos was refloated using its own means and safely sailed to the port of Adamantas; a departure prohibition was issued by the port authorities and it remained for inspection.

An inspection was carried out by the competent classification society and a certificate of class maintenance was provided. Subsequently, the departure prohibition was lifted and the ship continues its voyage to Souda.
