Cooperation agreement between Türkiye and Oman

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu continues his contacts in the UK, where he is to attend the 34th General Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). Within the scope of the meetings he held in the capital London, Uraloğlu announced that the “Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Maritime Transport” and the “Memorandum of Understanding in the Fields of Transport, Transport Corridors, Communication and Information Technologies” were signed between Turkey and Oman. Uraloğlu noted that this step strengthens the ground for cooperation between Turkey and Oman.

Minister Uraloğlu stated, “Signatures were made for the transport of cargo arriving in Oman to Europe via Turkey. The documents we signed initiate a comprehensive period of work ranging from maritime transport to multimodal transport, from port operations to communication infrastructure. We are creating a new ground for mutual interaction and joint projects by sharing the experience Turkey has gained in the field of transport with Oman.”

“A new era in transport and communication”

Uraloğlu expressed that with the Memorandum of Understanding in the Fields of Transport, Transport Corridors, Communication and Information Technologies, they agreed to cooperate in the development, design, superstructure, infrastructure and maintenance of roads, highways, bridges, tunnels and other engineering works for road transport. Minister Uraloğlu said, “We will promote cooperation in the planning, development, design, construction, supervision, operation and maintenance of railway and metro systems, the training of personnel, and the production, maintenance and repair of railway vehicles. We will also share our experiences and cooperate in the fields of digitalization and new technologies, including their applications in transport, mobility and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), and logistics.”

Minister Uraloğlu also stated that issues such as the design, operation, security and terminal management of airports are also included in the memorandum. Uraloğlu indicated that cooperation will be carried out in a wide range, from the planning and management of transport corridors to the development of postal services, from strengthening communication infrastructure to digital transformation applications, from the establishment of data centers and digital platforms to the development of the information technology ecosystem, and that enhancing the qualifications of human resources and promoting investments in advanced technologies are also among the critical titles of the agreement.

Cooperation in the maritime field

Minister Uraloğlu, stating that the signed Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Maritime Transport is the 65th Maritime Agreement signed by Turkey, said, “Within the scope of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Maritime Transport signed between Turkey and Oman; cooperation will be carried out in a wide area, from maritime safety and security to the protection of the marine environment, from multimodal transport and supply chain efficiency to shipbuilding, maintenance, repair and recycling activities. Port operation and management, maritime education and human resource development, the creation of green logistics corridors and digital logistics platforms, and studies for establishing a regular sea line between the two countries will also be on the common agenda.”
