COSCO SHIPPING and China Classification Society (CCS) jointly hosted a high-level forum on September 16 at the London International Shipping Week 2025 (LISW25). The event, themed “Green and Smart Solutions for a Safe, Sustainable and Efficient Shipping Industry,” showcased the Chinese shipping industry’s latest technologies and practical achievements in green and smart development, underscoring its global vision in advancing the “dual transformation” of digital intelligence and green low-carbon operations.

Mr. Zhu Bixin, Director of the Board and President of COSCO SHIPPING, attended LISW and delivered a keynote speech. He affirmed COSCO SHIPPING’s commitment to integrating ESG principles into its global operations and providing customers with safe, efficient, and sustainable services.

Mr. Zhu Bixin proposed three key initiatives for the sustainable development of the global shipping industry:

The forum featured in-depth discussions among representatives from international maritime regulatory authorities, industry organizations, and leading enterprises. COSCO SHIPPING presented an integrated “shipping + port + logistics” green and smart supply chain solution, noting that its operational efficiency has been enhanced through the application of blockchain and AI technologies. CCS showcased its developments, including the formulation of over 30 green and digital ship standards and the establishment of a zero-carbon shipping innovation laboratory.

During the event, COSCO SHIPPING (UK) released its ESG Highlights, detailing localized efforts such as the green smart flagship warehouse project by Crystal Logistics at the Freeport of London Gateway Port. This facility achieved a 40% reduction in carbon emissions and earned a BREEAM “Outstanding” rating through photovoltaic power generation and intelligent systems. Furthermore, its subsidiary, Multimodal Logistics Ltd (MML), is advancing fleet electrification and smart fleet management, achieving an energy efficiency improvement of approximately 8%.

Industry insiders expressed plans for China and Europe to strengthen cooperation in green fuel R&D, intelligent vessel demonstration, and carbon footprint certification, with the first cooperation outcomes planned for announcement at MARINTEC CHINA 2026.
