On the morning of July 18th, the naming ceremony for the “COSCO SHIPPING PANAMA” (N1073), another 16,136 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship built by Yangzhou COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry for COSCO Shipping Lines, was successfully held at the company’s Pier No. 3.

Qin Jiangping, Deputy General Manager of COSCO Shipping Lines, Sun Yingshui, Deputy General Manager of COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, representatives from various units of COSCO Shipping Lines and customer delegates, as well as leaders and distinguished guests from the China Classification Society, COSCO Shipping Seafarer Management Company, and COSCO Shipping Ship Trading Company, attended the ceremony. The naming sponsor, Ms. Xu Hui, christened the new vessel as “COSCO SHIPPING PANAMA” and broke a bottle of champagne to bestow blessings.

The “COSCO SHIPPING PANAMA” has an overall length of 366 meters and a beam of 51 meters, with a maximum container capacity of 16,136 TEU. The ship is equipped with an ultra-large methanol storage tank of 11,000 cubic meters, powered by a domestically developed methanol dual-fuel main engine from CSSC Power, along with methanol dual-fuel marine boilers and methanol generator sets. Through its dual-fuel system, the vessel can flexibly switch fuel modes according to route requirements, achieving world-class operational flexibility and stability.

Currently, the first ship in the series, the “COSCO SHIPPING YANGPU,” has already entered service and recently completed green methanol bunkering at Yangpu Port, Yangshan Port, and Dalian Port. This milestone has sparked a green and low-carbon trend, transitioning from “construction achievements” to “operational innovations,” setting a new benchmark for China’s shipping industry. It also fully validates the feasibility of “Chinese ships + Chinese green fuel,” showcasing COSCO Shipping Group’s end-to-end capabilities—from ship design and construction to green fuel supply—and providing a “Chinese solution” for the global shipping industry’s green and low-carbon transformation through “Chinese smart manufacturing.”

The sustained enthusiasm for the 16,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship series reflects COSCO Shipping Group’s commitment to driving global shipping’s green transformation through “full-industry-chain innovation.” It also highlights Yangzhou COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry’s innovative practices in advancing the development of green, low-carbon, and intelligent vessels.
