Athens – Greek shipowner Costamare has expanded its newbuilding program in China, adding two further 3,100 teu container ships to its growing orderbook. The company, listed on the New York Stock Exchange, stated in its third-quarter results report that the new units will be delivered in the first quarter of 2028 from an unspecified Chinese shipyard. Both ships will immediately enter service with long-term charter contracts lasting eight years signed with a major liner company. With this agreement, Costamare’s total orders for 3,100 teu container ships rise to six units, marking a further step in the company’s gradual recovery of newbuilding activity.
