China United Lines has ordered four 6,406-TEU container ships from CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding, with China Shipbuilding Trading participating in the contract, according to a May 7 publication by China State Shipbuilding Corporation.
The newbuildings were signed on April 28 in Guangzhou and were designed by CSSC’s 708th Research Institute. They will use conventional-fuel propulsion and have an overall length of 240 metres, moulded breadth of 42.8 metres, deadweight of about 80,310 tonnes and 1,150 reefer plugs.
The specification includes a twisted rudder with rudder bulb, an energy-saving duct, a shaft generator and high-voltage shore power capability.
The order extends an existing relationship between the carrier and the yard. CSSC said Huangpu Wenchong had previously built and delivered four 1,900-TEU and two 2,700-TEU container ships for CU Lines.
China United Lines is an international container liner shipping company serving major mainland China ports as well as Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, South Asia, the Middle East, the Red Sea, the eastern Mediterranean and East Africa. The company lists offices in Shanghai and Singapore.
CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding is a shipbuilding unit within the China State Shipbuilding Corporation group. China Shipbuilding Trading is the trading arm participating in the contract alongside the yard.
