CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping have announced the expansion of their joint fleet of Heavy Transport Vessels (HTVs) to a total of eight, following the order of two additional BC-Class vessels.
The first of the newly ordered ships is scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2028, with the second expected in the third quarter of the same year.
As with the initial pair of BC-Class vessels, the newbuilding contracts have been signed with Jing Jiang Nanyang Shipbuilding Co., Ltd, based in China.
These vessels are the result of a collaborative design effort between CY Shipping and BigLift Shipping, reflecting the strength of their partnership and a shared commitment to innovation in the heavy transport sector.
The BC-Class vessels are engineered to transport ultra-large and heavy modular cargoes globally. They are designed to ensure reliable service speeds, low accelerations, and efficient loading and discharge operations.
With similar frame spacing, depth, ballast systems, and tidal compensation capabilities, the new vessels will be fully interchangeable with BigLift’s existing MC-Class vessels, BigLift Barentsz and BigLift Baffin. However, they will offer extended deck length and improved stern-loading functionality.
Each BC-Class vessel measures 180 metres in length with a beam of 43 metres. The deck spans 43 by 140 metres, providing a fully unobstructed cargo area of 6,020 square metres. Cargoes can be loaded and discharged via stern or side using /roll-off or skidding methods.
The vessels feature a depth of 12 metres, a deadweight capacity of 25,000 metric tons, and a ballast system capable of handling 12,000 cubic metres per hour, ensuring robust performance across a range of operations.
The addition of these vessels marks a significant step forward in expanding operational capacity and enhancing service capabilities in the global heavy transport market.
