In her speech before the Plenary of the 34th General Assembly of the IMO in London, she emphasized that international shipping is at a critical turning point, with challenges such as climate change, geopolitical tensions and technological developments requiring cooperation and collective action.
Ms. Hatzimanoli focused particularly on the role of seafarers, calling for a stronger protection framework and enhanced efforts for fair treatment. She also referred to the need for global rules to address the “dark fleet” and enhance monitoring and compliance.
The Deputy Ministry also hosted a reception, where the positive, constructive role of Cyprus in promoting safety, the protection of the marine environment and the welfare of seafarers was highlighted.
