On August 16, 2025, two general cargo ships dispatched by our company departed simultaneously from Dalian, traversed the Bering Strait and the Arctic Ocean, and after 29 days, arrived at the Russian ice-free port of Murmansk on September 13.

The excellent seafarers dispatched by Dalian Zhonghai Maritime Technical Service Co., Ltd. demonstrated remarkable professional competence and collaborative skills during this voyage.

The Arctic route involves issues such as extremely cold climates and complex equipment operations. Faced with the challenging work environment and skill requirements, the crew was able to respond calmly and cooperate effectively, which is closely related to the daily learning, training, and experience accumulation at Zhonghai Maritime. To incentivize the crew’s hard work, the shipowner specially paid a considerable cash bonus.

The successful arrival of the two cargo ships in Murmansk via the Arctic route also signifies that the Northeast region has extended its shipping routes to the Arctic Ocean, providing strong support for foreign trade enterprises to expand new international logistics channels.

As more Chinese companies set their sights on this “Polar Silk Road,” the Arctic route will become a “new artery” connecting the business circles of Asia and Europe.

As the shortest maritime passage connecting North America, Northeast Asia, and Northern Europe, the Arctic route can significantly shorten the voyage. For example, the total voyage from Shanghai Gaoqiao via the Indian Ocean and the Suez Canal to London is approximately 10,410 nautical miles, while the voyage via the Arctic route is only 8,050 nautical miles, shortening the journey by over 2,000 nautical miles.

The shortened voyage means reduced operational costs such as ship fuel consumption and labor costs. Using the Arctic route can save approximately 40% of sailing time or about 10 days.

The opening of the Arctic route will change the long-standing pattern where the Panama Canal and Suez Canal serve as the main arteries connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and it has the potential to become a new key maritime transport route.

Simultaneously, it will further meet the growing demand for ice navigation, provide more customers traveling to and from Northern Europe and North America with higher quality and faster route services, and build a safe and efficient maritime corridor for the construction of the “Polar Silk Road” and the prosperity of Asia-Europe trade.
