LIVORNO – More than a year after the arrival of Davide Gariglio, initially as extraordinary commissioner and subsequently as president, the governance of the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Settentrionale is completed. According to what Corriere Marittimo has learned, tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1st, Pierpaolo Danieli should officially begin his service at Palazzo Rosciano as the new secretary general of the body.

The installation comes 64 days after the approval of his appointment by the Comitato di Gestione, which on April 28th last had given the green light, unanimously, to the proposal put forward by President Gariglio. Since then, the new secretary general does not appear to have formally assumed the position yet.

With the arrival of Danieli, the structure of the top body of the Port Authority is thus completed, having remained incomplete since the installation of lawyer Gariglio on June 14, 2025, in the role of extraordinary commissioner, but who assumed the official position of president, by ministerial decree of the Mit, on the following November 12th.

The designation of Danieli is the result of the public procedure initiated by the Autorità di Sistema Portuale for the identification of the new secretary general. The notice, which expired on March 26th last, had gathered 55 expressions of interest deemed regular. Although it was neither a public competition nor a procedure with a merit ranking, the call was aimed at collecting applications to be submitted for evaluation by the president of the AdSP, to whom the law attributes the proposal for appointment to be presented to the Comitato di Gestione.

An officer of the Marina Militare, born in 1981, from Puglia, graduated in Law and trained at the Accademia Navale di Livorno, Danieli arrives at the AdSP after experience at the Ministero delle Infrastrutture e dei Trasporti, where he held the position of head of the secretariat of the Capo di Gabinetto. His professional career also includes roles within the Capitanerie di Porto, the Autorità di Sistema Portuale dello Stretto, and, more recently, the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Orientale, where he served as sub-commissioner overseeing administrative coordination and infrastructural investments.

His appointment had been announced on April 28th last by the port body itself, at the end of the Comitato di Gestione meeting. On that occasion, President Davide Gariglio had motivated the choice by defining Danieli as “a profile of high technical and institutional caliber,” highlighting the skills he had developed both in the central administration and in the port system.

The installation of the new secretary general represents an important step for the full operational capacity of the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Settentrionale, which in the coming months is called upon to address strategic dossiers ranging from infrastructural investments to the energy transition, up to the development of traffic in the ports of Livorno, Piombino, and the entire port system under its jurisdiction.
