Entering the shipyard at an interval of 8 days, and setting sail just 6 days apart. On June 17 and 23, the “Sindara” and “Sun Star” vessels, owned by ANGLO-EASTERN SHIPMANAGEMENT (SINGAPORE) PTE LTD and repaired by Zhoushan COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, successively departed from the dock. Thus, all repair and modification works for the five same-series LPG carriers undertaken by the company in the first half of 2026 were completed and delivered.
The series of vessels completed this time are “Kedal”, “Tiffany”, “San Sovino”, “Sindara”, and “Sun Star”. The scope of work included routine hull maintenance, systematic piping modifications, and key equipment maintenance. Among them, the three vessels “San Sovino”, “Sindara”, and “Sun Star” also underwent the installation of scrubber systems.
LPG carrier construction standards are stringent, hot work control is strict, and scrubber pipeline layouts are complex. Moreover, the “Sindara” and “Sun Star” entered the shipyard consecutively on May 28 and June 5, respectively, resulting in a tight schedule. In response, the project team adopted a scientific approach, abandoning the “concentrated clustering” work mode and implementing staggered construction and process optimization strategies.
The general management team planned ahead comprehensively, scientifically integrating core resources such as dock berths, construction teams, and large equipment, and tailored exclusive control plans for each vessel. During the construction of the final vessel, “Sun Star”, the project team, through process optimization, compressed the originally planned 20-day repair cycle to 18 days while ensuring modification quality and production safety, effectively improving vessel turnaround efficiency.
During the construction period, a regular communication mechanism was established among the ship owner, the general management team, technical personnel, and various construction teams. Daily progress meetings were held to coordinate construction milestones, with a particular focus on strengthening process control for key procedures such as hot work, confined space operations, and scrubber equipment installation, ensuring smooth interface between processes and full control of construction progress. Upon inspection, the installation, pressure testing, and commissioning of the scrubber system all passed the initial inspection, and the modification quality was recognized by the ship owner and the superintendent team.
It is worth mentioning that amidst the intense engineering pace, a deep cooperative friendship was forged between the shipyard and the ship owner. During the construction phase of the “Sun Star”, which coincided with the birthday of the vessel’s project manager, the ship owner’s superintendents and crew specially ordered a cake to send their blessings, vividly illustrating the harmonious atmosphere of efficient collaboration and building a good cooperative relationship of mutual trust and win-win results.
The completion of the repair works for this series of five vessels fully demonstrates Zhoushan COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry’s mature technology in the green modification field of liquefied gas carriers. In the next step, the company will continue to deepen its presence in the green ship modification market, insist on driving service upgrades with technological innovation, polish its ship repair brand with high-quality craftsmanship, and strive to provide more high-quality and efficient one-stop solutions for the green and low-carbon transformation of the global shipping industry.
