Papenburg – A grand celebration at the historic Meyer Werft shipyard in Lower Saxony: the new maritime giant Disney Destiny was launched in front of thousands of enthusiastic spectators, with the special presence of Mickey Mouse himself. The ship was towed out of the large construction area and brought into the shipyard’s dock, marking an important milestone in the construction program shared between Meyer Werft and the American entertainment giant Disney. This is the third vessel of the “Wish” class, following the sister ships Disney Wish and Disney Treasure.
At 340 meters long, 41 meters wide, with 1,250 cabins and a capacity of approximately 4,000 passengers, the Disney Destiny also focuses on environmental sustainability: it will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), a choice that ensures lower emissions compared to conventional systems.
The final delivery involves the transfer of the ship, scheduled for the end of summer, along the Ems River to the North Sea.
The collaboration between Meyer Werft and Disney Cruise Line has been ongoing for over a decade. After delivering two ships for the group in 2010 and 2011, the German shipyard received four new orders from the American company last year, with deliveries expected between 2027 and 2031.
