A Norwegian developer of training simulator software has gained class approval for a model covering multi-fuel engines on a car carrier

DNV has approved the compliance of a newsimulator modelfortrainingengineers on propulsion and auxiliary machinery on ships running on alternative fuels.

Kongsberg Maritime received from DNV a statement of compliance for its new engineroom simulator (ERS) model based on Höegh Autoliners’ Aurora Class vehicle carrier.

The Höegh Aurora ERS model is now part of Kongsberg Maritime’s standard simulator portfolio and available for deployment across training centres worldwide.

DNV approval follows a full demonstration and audit of the simulator model, confirming compliance with the class society’s maritime simulator requirements and validating the model’s fidelity for advanced training applications.

Aurora Class vessels can carry up to 9,100 vehicles including electric vehicles. Each ship has multi-fuel capabilities and is ready to consume zero-carbon fuels such as ammonia, alongside a suite of energy-saving technologies.

Kongsberg Maritime said it played an important role in enabling the Aurora Class through its integrated technology suite, including automation, propulsion optimisation and digital technology.

All this supports efficient and lower-emission operations throughout the vessel lifecycle, said the Oslo-listed company.
