Jean Luis Rodríguez, executive director of the Dominican Port Authority (Apordom), stated that port activities have a direct impact on the local economy and that the Dominican Republic can be considered a logistics hub.
“The Dominican Republic can already be considered a logistics hub because we already have the conditions; we have first-class ports operating very efficiently. Every day there is better technology and more investment. We are contemplating private investments for the coming years exceeding one billion dollars,” said Rodríguez.
The official highlighted that everything that enters and leaves the country does so through the ports, contributing to different sectors such as construction, the agricultural sector which has specialized terminals in ports, as well as the docks for the fuel issue.
In the case of tourism, the director highlighted the five cruise terminals, two inaugurated during the current administration, the one in Cabo Rojo in Pedernales and Taíno Bay in Puerto Plata, while three more are under execution, in Barahona, and two in Samaná, in the same urban center and the Arroyo Barril area.
The head of the entity added that, regarding the construction of tourist and fishing docks, they energize and bring life to coastal communities, offering facilities for the advancement of the areas where fishing is carried out and generating a local impact in economic terms.
