The severe southerly storm that has been continuing over the Sea of Marmara for three days in the Süleymanpaşa district of Tekirdağ has halted the activities of fishermen. While numerous fishing boats have taken shelter in the port, the fishermen who pulled their boats to the port were busy with maintenance, repair, and renovation work.
Due to the southerly wind, large-tonnage cargo ships also had to anchor offshore along the Süleymanpaşa coast. Among the waves that rose with the storm, numerous seagulls attracted attention by essentially entering a competition to catch fish.
Hopeful wait for Monday
İbrahim Pehlivanoğlu, the President of the Süleymanpaşa Fisheries Cooperative, stated that the fishermen were in the port because of the storm, saying, “The southerly storm has been effective for about 3 days. God willing, if the storm subsides on Monday, our fisherman friends will catch anchovy, horse mackerel, and sardine, and our citizens will continue to eat fresh and cheap fish.”
