【Shanghai Shipping Exchange Release】Average Port Stay Time for Ocean-Going International Container Vessels at Major Global Ports in June 2025

Must read

In June, the operational efficiency of China’s major ports remained stable, while fluctuations were observed in the efficiency of major ports in Europe, America, and along key routes.

In June, as U.S. tariff policies became increasingly clear, a surge in concentrated shipments emerged in China’s container shipping market, with major ports striving to maintain stable operational efficiency. The average port stay time and berth time for international container vessels at China’s major ports were 1.51 days and 0.85 days, respectively, up 6.3% and 1.2% month-on-month. These figures outperformed the average port stay and berth times (2.40 days and 1.82 days) of the other 11 major foreign ports.

In the first half of the year, the average port stay and berth times for international container vessels at China’s major ports were 1.50 days and 0.87 days, respectively, up 4.0% and 0.5% year-on-year, indicating overall stable operational efficiency.

High temperatures in Europe and falling water levels in some rivers affected logistics transshipment, leading to slight congestion at certain ports and fluctuations in operational efficiency at major ports along European and American routes. Among them, the average port stay time at Rotterdam Port in Europe was 2.27 days, up 2.7% month-on-month, while Antwerp Port saw an average stay time of 2.65 days, down 1.5% month-on-month. At the major U.S. West Coast ports, the average port stay time at Los Angeles Port was 4.17 days, up 5.3% month-on-month, while Long Beach Port recorded an average stay time of 4.73 days, up 32.5% month-on-month.

Notes:

Port stay time refers to the total duration from when a vessel arrives at the port’s anchorage waiting area to when it completes loading/unloading operations and departs the berth. This metric reflects the comprehensive efficiency of port facilities, pilotage, scheduling, cargo handling, intermodal transport, and customs clearance.

Berth time refers to the total duration from when a vessel docks at the berth for loading/unloading operations to when it completes operations and departs the berth. This metric primarily reflects the efficiency of cargo handling operations during berthing.
