Container exports at the Port of New York and New Jersey grew 2.6% in March 2026, totaling 138,471 TEU -equivalent to 74,017 boxes-. During the first quarter of the year, the facility shipped 354,180 TEU (189,157 containers) abroad, 3.9% more than the 341,007 TEU (182,375 containers) recorded in the first three months of 2025.

Meanwhile, shipments of empty containerized pieces increased 2.8% in March, reaching 273,014 TEU. In the first three months of the year, movements in this segment reached 719,568 TEU, which translated into a decrease of 2.9%.

For its part, imports increased 11.4% in March, reaching a total of 425,453 TEU (232,660 containers). Receipts during the first quarter totaled 1,099,245 TEU (603,215 containers), which meant a decline of 1.6% compared to the 1,117,341 TEU (617,313 containers) received in the same period of 2025. Arrivals of empty pieces rose 9.6% in the first quarter.

Rail transport volume increased 37%, reaching a total of 80,914 units, while between January and March it was 20.8% higher than in the same period of 2025.

Meanwhile, a total of 35,044 automobiles transited through the Port of New York and New Jersey, representing a decrease of 7.5% compared to the previous year. The number of cars in the first quarter of the year was 8.6% lower than in the same period of 2025.

It should be noted that the total volume in March was near historical highs, reaching 837,993 TEU (457,008 containers), which meant an increase of 6.9% compared to the 783,732 TEU (430,141 containers) of the previous year. This figure raised the total to 2,177,694 TEU (1,191,640 containers) in the first quarter of the year, representing a decline of 1.2% compared to the same period of 2025.
