The Port of Hueneme received USD 11,250,000 in federal funds, through the Maritime Administration of the United States Department of Transportation (Marad), as part of the Port Infrastructure Development Program (PIDP).
This investment will allow for necessary improvements to the docks and berths to optimize operations at one of the country’s main distribution centers for fresh produce and automobiles.
“Strategic investments like this ensure that the Port of Hueneme remains a reliable and forward-looking gateway for global trade. This funding will allow us to continue generating economic value for our region, while supporting a more resilient national supply chain,” expressed Jason Hodge, President of the Board of Commissioners of the Oxnard Harbor District.
The project aims to improve safety within the port facility, as well as adapt infrastructure to meet constantly evolving maritime demands and reinforce its strategic role in national defense and economic vitality. The dock improvements contemplated in the initiative will increase capacity and provide workforce development opportunities for the Ventura County community.
Likewise, dredging will complete the port’s deepening program, spanning 25 years, ensuring safe navigation for larger vessels and meeting customer needs. This includes the extraction of approximately 19,343 cubic meters of sand from the berth to contribute to the regeneration of the adjacent beach in the city.
“We appreciate the Administration’s investment in our port, which allows us to expand import and export opportunities and create well-paying jobs for our community. It takes a strong delegation of Congressional leaders, including U.S. Senators Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla, and U.S. Representatives Julia Brownley, Vince Fong, and John Garamendi, to make these projects a reality,” commented Kristin Decas, CEO and Port Director.
