The meeting between President Al-Sisi and Robert Maersk Uggla consolidates cooperation for the development of sustainable fuels and the expansion of the Suez Canal terminals
Cairo – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with the chairman of the A.P. Møller-Maersk group, Robert Maersk Uggla, to discuss expanding cooperation in the maritime and logistics sectors, with particular attention to the green transition of maritime transport.
At the meeting, also attended by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and the president of the Suez Canal Authority (Sca) Adm. Ossama Rabiee, the will to strengthen the strategic partnership between Egypt and Maersk was reiterated. Al-Sisi praised the commitment of the Danish group to the development of green fuels and refueling infrastructure in the country, objectives that fall within the Egyptian plan to become a regional hub for sustainable maritime transport.
Uggla expressed appreciation for Egypt’s diplomatic role in promoting regional stability and confirmed Maersk’s commitment to collaborating with the Sca, underlining the importance of the Suez Canal as a key artery of world trade and praising the infrastructural progress made.
The parties discussed new areas of cooperation, including the development of container terminals, logistics projects, training and skills exchange. Al-Sisi reaffirmed the country’s commitment to ensuring a favorable environment for investment and invited Maersk to expand its presence in Egypt.
Admiral Rabiee confirmed the Sca’s intention to extend joint initiatives in support of the national economy and Egypt’s position as a global logistics hub. Recently, Maersk also signed a memorandum of understanding with Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. (Catl) to accelerate the decarbonization of global logistics chains, further strengthening its green strategy in the region.
