The President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, received Robert Maersk Uggla, Chairman of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group, to analyze and expand the cooperation of both parties in the logistics and maritime sectors.

The Presidency highlighted the alliance it maintains, through the Suez Canal Authority, with the shipping company, along with highlighting its projects related to the production and supply of green fuel for ships, “which reinforces the country’s position as a regional hub for the group’s operations, both in container trade and in clean energy production.”

Likewise, the President expressed Egypt’s appreciation for Maersk’s efforts in the expansion works of the company’s Suez Canal container terminal in the Port of East Port Said.

Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, the official spokesperson for the meeting, stated that Robert Maersk Uggla thanked the Egyptian President for the fundamental role played in achieving the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and for hosting the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. He underlined that these efforts will have a positive impact on the region’s stability and on navigation in the Red Sea.

He also reaffirmed Maersk’s commitment to continue its cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, “considered the most important maritime route in the world for supply chains, for offering a more efficient and less costly route than the alternatives.” Likewise, he pointed to the advanced services that the canal offers to transit ships, and expressed the group’s desire to support Egypt’s efforts in the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, noting that the Port of East Port Said could play a key role in this process.

The Group’s Chairman also highlighted the constant support that Maersk receives in Egypt, stating that “the volume of current investments and projects reflects the firm confidence in the country’s stability and economic environment. He also praised the notable development of the Suez Canal Authority’s infrastructure and technical capabilities, which position Egypt as a leading regional hub for supplying green fuel to ships.”

The spokesperson added that the meeting addressed ways to strengthen cooperation between the Suez Canal Authority and the Maersk Group in the fields of training, exchange of experiences, maritime transport, logistics, container terminals, and maritime services.
