Egypt’s National Navigation signs for kamsarmax newbuilds in China National Navigation

Egypt’s National Navigation Company (NNC) is set to expand its fleet with a pair of kamsarmax bulk carrier newbuilds from China.

The Cairo-based owner has commissioned Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry to build and deliver the 82,000 dwt units in 2026.

Established in 1981, National Navigation owns a fleet of 14 vessels flying the Egyptian flag, comprising 13 bulkers and one 3,000 teu containership.

Egypt has set out plans to rejuvenate its fleet in the next few years and expand the number of vessels of its affiliated companies to more than 30 by 2030 to boost its capacity for shipping strategic goods, including grains and petroleum products.

The newbuilding deal was signed in the presence of the country’s Minister of Transport, Kamel Al-Wazir.

“These steps are part of a larger effort to renew over 40% of our national commercial fleet within three years, significantly advancing our strategic maritime objectives,” Al-Wazir said.
