In an expanded session of the collaborative logistics plan for the southern-austral macrozone, Empresa Portuaria Chacabuco (Emporcha) presented to the logistics systems of the port entities Austral, Chacabuco and Puerto Montt the progress of four strategic initiatives that seek to modernize the regional port operation.
Felipe Candia, general manager of the state-owned company, explained that one of the initiatives is led exclusively by the company and aims to improve the space allocated for /roll-off cargo. “We are progressing according to our Gantt chart to propose a sector that functions as a parking lot for wheeled cargo, preventing it from remaining on public roads,” he stated.
The executive detailed that this measure seeks to reduce the impact of port operations in the town of Puerto Chacabuco. “Today we handle a significant volume of wheeled cargo each week, so we need a solution that allows us to organize the flow of trucks during loading and unloading,” added Candia.
Regarding the initiatives developed jointly with the other two ports, Candia highlighted the work aimed at moving towards an integrated digital ecosystem. “We are building a digital coastal shipping manifest for the entire macrozone, with the goal of standardizing processes and strengthening the system’s efficiency,” affirmed the executive.
Another of the presented lines of action addresses the modernization of the monitoring of the connectivity infrastructure of the Dirección de Obras Portuarias, through technological solutions based on imaging and artificial intelligence. This initiative will improve the control of wheeled cargo and people, taking advantage of the high-speed connectivity available in the area.
The third is aimed at positioning Patagonia and its fjords as a preferential destination for “Luxury Expedition” cruises. Candia stated that “the southern fjords have a potential comparable to that of Nordic countries and that their natural value, added to the access to Antarctica, represents a strategic opportunity to attract a highly interesting tourist segment.”
“The presented initiatives reinforce the commitment of Emporcha and the ports of the southern-austral macrozone to a more efficient, modern, and sustainable operation. The combination of optimized infrastructure, process digitalization, and a joint tourism development strategy aims to consolidate an integrated and competitive logistics system, capable of facing future challenges and enhancing the growth of the region,” concluded the information reported by Emporcha.
