The Empresa Portuaria Puerto Montt (Empormontt), together with regional authorities, presented in the city of Castro the project “Logistics and Extra-Port Center for the province of Chiloé”.

The initiative responds to a strategy that seeks to strengthen the logistical organization of the area and aim for the long-term development of the archipelago.

The activity was attended by the Regional Presidential Delegate of Los Lagos, the Provincial Presidential Delegate of Chiloé, the Mayor of Castro, the Seremi of National Assets, the Seremi of Transport and Telecommunications, as well as authorities and technical teams from Empormontt.

Specifically, the project grants the state port company a short-term free-use concession for five years on a seven-hectare fiscal property, located in the Punahuel sector, lot 2, commune of Dalcahue, according to the scope of Exempt Resolution No. /2025. This land will allow the implementation of a Comprehensive Logistics Organization System for the province of Chiloé.

The agreement contemplates the creation of a logistics distribution center for commercial, industrial, and port cargo, with the objective of improving connectivity between communes such as Dalcahue, Castro, Quinchao, and Quellón, mitigating negative road impacts in urban areas, and decongesting streets and accesses currently used by trucks. It also incorporates rest areas for truck drivers, improving working and safety conditions, according to what was specified by the Regional Presidential Delegation of Los Lagos.

On the occasion, Julián Goñi, president of the Board of Directors of Empormontt, gave the project presentation, outlining its main guidelines and projections for the future development of the island territory. “This land, of approximately seven hectares, allows us to think of a pre-port for logistics cargo distribution,” he noted.

“This province is tripling its productive activity, and to that, we must add the future bridge over the Chacao Channel and the double lane. By the year 2033, we are going to have a completely different logistical morphology than we have today, and we want to be part of the solution for what is coming,” he added.

Subsequently, the general manager of Empormontt, Edmundo Silva Martel, valued the coordinated work between the different State institutions, highlighting that this project responds to long-term planning and a strategic vision to accompany the productive and logistical growth of the province of Chiloé.

The presentation took place within the framework of the commemoration of the Bicentennial of the annexation of Chiloé to Chilean territory, an occasion that invites projecting the future of the archipelago with a strategic vision, integrating territorial development, connectivity, and logistical sustainability for the benefit of local communities.

Finally, the day included a moment of respect and reflection in memory of the victims of the forest fires affecting the regions of Ñuble and Biobío, expressing solidarity with the affected families and communities.
