Coral North will double the country’s production capacity by 2028

Milan – Eni has approved the final investment decision (FID) for the development of the Coral North FLNG project, located in Area 4 of the Rovuma Basin, off the coast of Cabo Delgado, Mozambique.

The floating liquefaction unit will have a capacity of 3.6 million tonnes per year, joining the Coral South, which has been in production since 2022. Together, they will bring Mozambique’s LNG capacity to over 7 mtpa, making it the third largest African producer.

The project, led by Eni with partners CNPC, KOGAS, ENH and XRG (ADNOC), is expected to become operational in 2028. According to the CEO Claudio Descalzi, Coral North will generate 23 billion dollars in tax revenues, thousands of jobs and 3 billion in contracts for local businesses.

Eni has been present in Mozambique since 2006 and between 2011 and 2014 discovered approximately 2.4 trillion m³ of gas in the Coral, Mamba Complex and Agulha fields.
