With the objective of continuing to generate efficiency in energy expenditure in the various facilities, the Empresa Portuaria Austral achieved recertification of ISO 50.001 for its Energy Management System, for the period 2025-2028.

Preceded by an external audit, this document is the response to the advances in energy management in the state-owned company, achieving a decrease in natural gas consumption indicators for the Arturo Prat (6%) and José Santos Mardones (2%) terminals, comparing the periods 2021-2022 and 2023-2024, and various opportunities for improvement in electrical consumption.

In detail, the main action that allowed this improvement in energy performance is the optimization of the temperature during daytime and nighttime hours for the boilers of both terminals. Furthermore, a dissemination campaign has been carried out among Epaustral workers and in the media (internal and external), with the objective of raising awareness about the issue and providing some recommendations.

All these actions will be equally promoted among contractors, suppliers, and clients so that they are part of the energy efficiency process.

The ISO 50001 Standard is a voluntary international standard that establishes requirements for implementing an Energy Management System (EnMS) in organizations of any size. Its main purpose is to help companies improve their energy efficiency, reduce energy consumption and costs, and minimize their environmental impact through the systematic management of energy.

With this, it helps organizations discover and take advantage of their energy efficiency potential, where they can benefit from cost savings and make a significant contribution to climate and environmental protection.
