Specifically, the Greek group incorporates the innovative technology Dynamic Biofilm Protection intelligent® (DBPi®) into its portfolio.
This is a pioneering antifouling solution, meaning a system that prevents the attachment and growth of marine microorganisms, such as algae and barnacles, on ship surfaces. The accumulation of these organisms increases hull friction with water, reduces speed and increases fuel consumption.
The DBPi® uses ultrasonic waves and artificial intelligence to prevent the growth of marine biomass, keeping surfaces clean without the use of chemicals or frequent cleaning operations by crews.
The DBPi® technology is already applied to protect critical ship systems, such as propellers, pumps and heat exchangers, and is continuously evolving with new applications, including a next-generation solution for protecting ship hulls.
In this way, the need for expensive maintenance and cleanings is reduced, energy efficiency is improved as the ship maintains a smoother surface that glides more easily in the water, requiring less power for the same speed, and CO₂ emissions are significantly reduced thanks to lower fuel consumption.
The DBPi® has already proven its effectiveness in the sectors of merchant shipping, cruise ships and offshore installations.
“This acquisition marks yet another strategic milestone for the ERMA TECH group,” said Eleni Polychronopoulos, president of the group. “We are incorporating yet another innovative technology that reduces emissions, limits operational costs and facilitates compliance with international environmental regulations, continuing our development path and further solidifying the ERMA TECH group as a provider of integrated sustainable maritime technologies.”
