Hutchison Ports Best presented its socio-economic impact study at the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce. Prepared by KPMG, the study indicated that the terminal generates 0.7% of Catalonia’s GDP and represents almost 50% of the economic impact of the Port of Barcelona.
The report quantified Best’s growth over the last decade, a facility that tripled its volume since 2013, reaching nearly 2.8 million TEU in 2025. This increase translated into high operational activity with more than 1,200 vessels managed in a single year.
Furthermore, in 2025, the facility’s activity enabled the generation of more than 20,500 jobs, including direct, indirect and induced impacts, with effects extending to the transport, industry and services sectors linked to global trade.
Additionally, the terminal has exceeded initial forecasts, reaching an investment of 876 million euros (USD 999.9 million) – 32% higher than the expected figure – driving automation, digitalisation and sustainability projects that reinforce its long-term competitiveness.
The presentation of the study also served to highlight the role of the Port of Barcelona as a logistics platform for southern Europe, within an ecosystem that integrates key infrastructures such as the ZAL, Mercabarna and the airport, positioning Catalonia as an industrial, technological and logistics hub.
