The Santander Port Authority (APS) inaugurated the urbanization works of the curvilinear triangle. This infrastructure will allow the extension of the Cantabrian port’s surface area by 45,000 meters.

According to information provided by the APS via a web publication, the space will mean a considerable increase for road traffic at the Port of Santander (Spain), enabling more than 1,800 parking spaces for vehicles.

Furthermore, the statement detailed that “added to the first phase of the project, developed between 2019 and early 2020 and provisionally halted by a legal process initiated by Ecologistas en Acción which was resolved in favor of the port administration, the investment, made by the Port Authority itself, has amounted to 6.2 million euros”.

“The action has generated a new vehicle storage area of more than 38,000 m² of paved yard, within an approximate action area of 45,000 m² and allows for around 1,800 parking spaces for vehicles, with marked spaces of 5.00 x 2.50 meters”, was added in the circular.

In this regard, César Díaz, president of the APS, stated that “the work we are putting into service today, which is also part of this investment effort, helps to consolidate one of the greatest strengths of the port of Santander: road traffic“.

Finally, it was reported that the works were executed by the company UTE Rucecan-Axfal, adding that “they included the execution of the new perimeter road and a new roundabout, the conditioning of the esplanade, the extension of pavement layers, the construction of rainwater drainage networks, lighting and video surveillance, as well as the installation of a 4-meter high security perimeter fence. The project contemplated an execution period of five months and a budget of 4,692,978 euros”, the publication concluded.
