The infrastructure will support the country’s electricity production and energy security
Bagdad – The American company Excelerate Energy has received an official letter from the Iraqi government to develop a floating integrated LNG import terminal, intended to strengthen national electricity production, stabilize the grid, and diversify sources away from less reliable gas supplies.
The project will be led by Excelerate in coordination with the Iraqi authorities and enjoys the direct support of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani. During a meeting on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Prime Minister Fuad Hussein expressed his appreciation to CEO Steven Kobos, in the presence of representatives from the US Department of State.
The company clarified that the authorization is a preliminary step and that the realization of the terminal will depend on the definition of binding commercial agreements. Kobos emphasized that the project represents a strategic partnership between Excelerate and Iraq, fundamental for the country’s energy security.
Excelerate provides flexible regasification services, LNG infrastructure, and power generation solutions.
