On the 24th, it was learned from the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration that currently, the export volume of the “new three” maritime goods, represented by new energy vehicles, at Yangshan Port is continuously rising, and the accompanying transportation safety issues are becoming increasingly prominent.
Recently, during export clearance approval, the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration uncovered a case of inaccurate documentation declaration for a new energy vehicle. The company involved misused the qualifications of another company during the declaration process, posing serious safety hazards for the maritime transport of dangerous goods.
It is understood that the declared shipment consisted of two new energy vehicles powered by lithium batteries. When law enforcement officers compared data using the smart maritime supervision system, they discovered discrepancies between some key information in the declaration materials and the actual situation, prompting an immediate in-depth investigation.
Upon investigation, the actual shipper was a company from Qingdao. The freight forwarder entrusted by them, during the document preparation process, misused the name and seal of a company from Wenzhou to produce a full set of materials, including the dangerous goods technical specification, business license, and declaration power of attorney.
It is reported that the large-capacity lithium batteries equipped in new energy vehicles pose relatively high risks during maritime transport. Lithium-ion batteries have high energy density; once thermal runaway is triggered by collision or short circuit, the fire spreads rapidly, releasing toxic gases, and is prone to re-ignition, making it difficult to control with traditional firefighting methods.
In recent years, several ship fire incidents involving electric vehicles have occurred globally, all highlighting the potential dangers during the transport of such goods.
This case is the first instance of inaccurate new energy vehicle documentation uncovered by the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration and is currently under further investigation and handling.
A relevant responsible person from the Yangshan Port Maritime Safety Administration stated that the administration will continue to optimize the “one-container system” and “one-bill system” for fast customs clearance services, supporting the efficient export of “new three” goods like new energy vehicles. Simultaneously, it will maintain a high-pressure crackdown on false declarations, concealment, and omissions in the transport of dangerous goods, pursue strict accountability according to the law, and include relevant companies in a key supervision list.
