FarSounder’s Argos 3D Forward Looking Sonar is now integrated with Anschütz’s SYNAPSIS (W)ECDIS NX navigation platform. The partnership brings underwater detection and mapping data directly into the bridge environment, advancing safety and digital situational awareness at sea.

FarSounder has expanded its reach in maritime navigation with a new integration between its Argos 3D Forward Looking Sonar and Anschütz GmbH’s SYNAPSIS (W)ECDIS NX. The collaboration brings real-time underwater detection and seafloor mapping data into a centralised interface, giving bridge teams a clearer view of their surroundings both above and below the waterline.

The SYNAPSIS platform enables third-party systems to contribute geo-referenced data layers onto the chart display without any modification to the core system. This means that users of FarSounder’s Argos sonar can now see in-water targets such as submerged obstacles or floating debris, alongside traditional navigational data and live bathymetric information.

“This collaboration makes it easier than ever for mariners to benefit from the powerful insights offered by our 3D sonar technology,” said Matthew Zimmerman, CEO and Co-Founder of FarSounder. “By integrating our subsurface awareness directly into a system they already use daily, we’re reducing complexity and enabling safer, faster decision-making in challenging environments.”

Anschütz’s SYNAPSIS (W)ECDIS NX is recognised for its modular design and intuitive interface that simplifies bridge operations. The inclusion of Argos sonar data enhances this experience, allowing operators to access both live and historical detections, adjust displays by depth and signal level, and apply colour schemes according to environmental conditions.

“Yacht captains have long expressed a desire to see their forward-looking sonar systems fully integrated into their navigation equipment,” said Philip Kankelfitz, Head of Commercial Sales at Anschütz. “With the seamless integration of ECDIS and sonar, we are taking a significant step forward – delivering genuine added value to our customers.”

The partnership follows FarSounder’s recent software updates and ongoing collaborations across the digital navigation sector. It reflects the company’s long-term goal of making real-time 3D sonar data more accessible to mariners. By connecting subsurface information directly into navigation systems, both companies are helping ship operators make informed decisions in complex environments, contributing to a safer and more connected maritime industry.
