The announcement, which includes the modernization of the Pashaliman shipyards, on the sidelines of the Meloni-Rama intergovernmental summit
Rome – The announcement was made by the Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, in the joint statements with the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, at the end of the Italy-Albania intergovernmental summit. Rama spoke of a memorandum of intent between Fincantieri and Kayo, preliminary to the technical convention for the establishment of a Joint Venture for the modernization of the Pashaliman shipyards.
“Seven ships will be built in Pashaliman – he said – by an Italian-Albanian company, in which the Italian side is Fincantieri and the Albanian side is Kayo. It is a joint enterprise that will create work, knowledge for young Albanians, who will be paid well, and that will supply Italy, Albania if it needs it, and other countries, with ships, which are so important these days”.
The signing of the Memorandum took place in the presence of Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Fincantieri and Ardi Veliu, Chief Executive Officer of Kayo. The agreement provides for the establishment of a joint venture that will operate as prime contractor for shipbuilding and maintenance contracts for the Albanian market. For projects intended for abroad, it will be able to build units up to 80 meters in length and 800 tons in displacement. In this case, Fincantieri will assume the role of prime contractor, entrusting the joint venture with the construction of the ships.
Based on the partnership, Kayo will make the Pashaliman shipyard in Vlora available and will invest in its infrastructural modernization, while Fincantieri will support the modernization of the production process, offering operational expertise, training and engineering know-how. It will also provide material packages, thus consolidating its role as a technological reference partner.
“The agreement – commented Folgiero – represents a new important step in the collaboration between Italy and Albania. By combining our skills and resources, we are giving life to a project that strengthens the military naval supply chain, promotes economic and infrastructural development, and opens new prospects for international growth. It is the concrete demonstration of how the synergy between companies and countries can generate value, security and future”.
