A fire broke out aboard the Liberian-flagged liquefied gas carrier Navigator Global while the vessel was alongside the eastern Berth No. 2 at Marsa al-Brega seaport on Wednesday, Sep. 24, at 11:40 a.m. local time.
Emergency teams halted ammonia loading, cut power to the berth and brought the blaze under control, with no injuries reported, according to Sirte Oil & Gas Production and Manufacturing Company (SOC) and local security officials.
Assistant Security Director at Brega Seaport, Lt. Col. Mahmoud Al-Atyoush, said responders “managed to control the fire after a rapid intervention to limit the spread,” noting the ship’s engine was shut down to aid firefighting. An assessment and investigation have begun.
SOC stated the fire started “suddenly in the engine room” of Navigator Global while berthed, with damage limited to part of the main engine and the fuel supply system. No human casualties were recorded.
