Must read

The East Coast Railway on Monday flagged off the first freight train carrying fertilizers from Paradip after completion of a freight terminal under the Centre’s Gati Shakti initiative.

The first Gati Shakti multimodal cargo terminal (GCT)was commissioned near Paradip station by Container Corporation of India Limited, on the basis of demand from the industry and potential of cargo traffic.

The first freight train from the terminal carried 3,774 tonnes of fertilizers loaded by Indian Farmer Fertilizer Corporation Limited bound for Nakaha Jangal in Uttar Pradesh.

Keeping the PM’s vision of Gati Shakti in mind, the railway ministry launched the GCT to boost investment from the industry in development of additional terms for handling rail cargo. GCTs are being developed by private players on non-railway land or /partially on railway land for handling rail cargo.
