First ultra-large LNG carrier built by a Chinese private firm begins ocean trials in China as the 175,000-cubic-meter vessel “Xinfu124,” constructed by Jiangsu Yangzi Xinfu Shipbuilding in Taixing, starts ocean trials on November 20 under the coordination and support of maritime authorities, according to the official portal of Taizhou city.
The vessel has an overall length of 297 meters, a beam width of 46 meters and a depth of 26.5 meters. It is equipped with a dual-engine, dual-propeller propulsion system and has a daily evaporation rate of 0.085 percent, meeting what the source describes as the most stringent international emission standards. The construction schedule is fully booked until May 2029.
This ship is China’s first ultra-large liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier constructed by a private enterprise.
For 2025, Yangzi Xinfu plans to deliver nine vessels totaling 1.3 million deadweight tons (DWT), including one 32,000 DWT bulk carrier and eight 16,000 TEU (twenty-foot equivalent unit) dual-fuel container ships. The company expects annual sales revenue to exceed 10 billion yuan and tax contributions to surpass 700 million yuan. From January to September of the current year, Yangzi Xinfu has delivered seven vessels, generating 8.05 billion yuan in revenue. As of now, Yangzi Xinfu has orders for 46 vessels totaling 7.7 million DWT, with a contract value of nearly $8.9 billion.
