Recognising its remote control capabilities, Liza Unity became the first floating storage, production and offloading (FPSO) vessel to receive a new class notation, REMOTE-CON, from ABS

Representatives from vessel operator SBM Offshore and owner ExxonMobil Guyana attended an official presentation ceremony at the ABS booth at OTC 2024 in Houston on 7 May.

The REMOTE-CON notation demonstrates the vessel’s alignment with remote-control functions and signifies that the design and construction of the offshore asset are assessed against and adhere to the ABSRequirements for Autonomous and Remote Control Functions.

“Remote access and control capabilities are a key component of our strategy to maximise the safety, integrity and availability of our assets and progress towards our goal of net-zero,” said SBM Offshore chief operating officer Alex Glenn.

Liza Unity, which operates at ExxonMobil Guyana’s Stabroek Block development in Guyana, was also the first FPSO to receive the SUSTAIN-1 notation from ABS, recognising the vessel’s alignment with key elements of the ESG requirements outlined in the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

ABS senior VP, global offshore, Miguel Hernandez will provide the platinum sponsor welcome address at theOffshore Support Journal Conference, Americas, in Houston, 11-12 June 2024. For more details, please click here.
