A new animated video from Peel Ports has demonstrated how much the Port of Liverpool has benefitted from its rail freight service, and how it is enabled the movement of trade around the UK.
The freight service connects the Liverpool2 deep-water container terminal to Scotland, and since it opened in August 2018, it has carried over 2500 containers.

Peel Ports claims this has taken pressure off local and national transportation infrastructure. It has reportedly saved over half a million miles being driven on the UK’s motorways since the summer 0f 2018 and subsequently reduced carbon dioxide emission by 500 tonnes.
Furthermore, the service gives exporters greater access to the trans-Atlantic shipping lanes and increases the Port of Liverpool’s standing as an international trade gateway.
In January 2019, the Port of Liverpool was given a significant boost when Maersk and MSC, the two biggest carriers in the world by market share, launched a permanent trans-Atlantic shipping route connecting Liverpool with several major US ports.
In October 2018, the port also welcomed a COSCO vesselfor the first time in a sign of its growing relationship with China.
