From Hong Kong to Singapore, Seaspan changes headquarters

Seaspan, a big company in the ship leasing sector for major maritime liners, will transfer its legal headquarters from Hong Kong to Singapore.

Several analysts believe the shipowner’s decision was influenced by the imminent application of new US taxes on Chinese shipowners and ships built in China.

Hong Kong is, in fact, a Chinese special administrative region, even though it maintains a high degree of autonomy.

By transferring its legal headquarters to Singapore, the shipowner could therefore obtain advantageous reductions on Chinese shipping taxes.
