The MSC Group is set to build its new headquarters in Naples.
The Italian sub-holding Marinvest, in its recently filed latest financial statements, reveals it has invested in the Campanian capital with the purchase of a property worth 29 million euros, finalized last March. According to what was reported to SHIPPING ITALY by sources close to the Geneva-based group, it should be a property located at 40 Via Agostino Depretis, exactly opposite the current headquarters of MSC Crociere in Naples, known as “il palazzo dei Telefoni” (also called the central telephone exchange); a monumental building that is part of the trilogy of telephone buildings constructed in the city around the 1920s. In all likelihood, once renovated, it will house the growing staff of MSC Crociere and other tour operators and companies that have entered the orbit of the group founded or controlled by Gianluigi Aponte.
Marinvest itself in 2025 signed two financing contracts for a total of 41 million euros after having prematurely repaid five loans for a total of 11.9 million with the cancellation of the related mortgages and guarantees.
In the ‘significant events that occurred during the financial year’, the Italian strongbox of MSC also reports the two capital contributions, received between July and September of last year from the sole shareholder Sas Luxembourg Sarl (Aponte’s Luxembourg-based operating holding), for a total of 166.5 million euros which were subsequently paid to the subsidiary Grandi Navi Veloci.
The negative result of the Genoese ferry company (a loss of 256 million euros) also dragged Marinvest’s net result into negative territory, which closed the last financial year with a loss of 46.8 million (compared to a profit of 7.5 million the previous year), despite income from participations rising to 45 million euros (from 35 million in 2023).
Regarding income from controlled companies, not only GNV but also Snav closed the last financial year in the red with a loss of 1 million euros, while the maritime agency MSC Italia (the former MSC Le Navi) contributed positively with a net profit of nearly 7.5 million, the Spadoni maritime agency of Livorno with a profit of 1.1 million and MSC Crociere Spa with a positive net result of 3.7 million.
Among the associated companies, the queen of financial income for Marinvest is always La Spezia Container Terminal (40% owned by MSC) which closed 2024 with a net profit of 32.6 million euros and Ignazio Messina & C. (49% owned) with a positive net result of 11.8 million euros, to which are added another 4.7 million in profits generated by Roma Cruise Terminal (33.3%), almost 4 million from Terminal Napoli (22.4%) and 3.5 million from Lorenzini & C. (50%).
